Born in 1945, Tbilisi, Georgia

Merited Artist of Georgia, 1983

Gogi Chagelishvili studied at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts from 1964 to 1971.

During 1973-1974 he worked at the creative house Senezh near Moscow.

Chagelishvili’s art is characterized by an innovative interpretation of traditional genres.

The artist moves from object deformation and stylization to maximum simplification of form turning the object into a symbol, a sign referring to an object. Antique items serve as a source of inspiration for highly interesting installations and objects which the artist creates through the symbolization and aestheticization of objects from everyday life.
