Violet Nellie Garrod, was born at Upper Tooting, London on 19 November 1898, daughter of Henry William Garrod (22 October 1863-1951), a wine broker, and his wife Nellie née Lutwyche (4 November 1868-1944), who married at Hackney, London in 1891. In 1911, a 12 year old, living at Colwyn Park Avenue, Watford, Hertfordshire with her parents, 47 year old Henry and 42 year old Nellie, with two older siblings, William Henry Edward 18 and Dorothy Lutwyche 17. In 1939, they were living at 96 Overcliff Drive, Bournemouth, Hampshire when Violet was described as an 'artist'. Violet exhibited at the Royal Academy from Rustington, March Road, Weybridge in 1923 'Grannie', from 96 Overcliff Drive, Southbourne, Bournemouth in 1930 'V. N. G.', in 1936 'The Feather Inn', in 1937 'Jimmy' and from Riverbank, Bath Road, Lymington, Hampshire in 1955 'The Brocade Dress'. Violet Nellie Garrod died at 12 Rabling Road, Swanage, Dorset, retired portrait painter, on 1 April 1982 and her death was recorded at Poole, Dorset in the 2nd quarter of 1982. She was unmarried.
